Adult Diagnostic Evaluation. The purpose of this evaluation is to work with you to determine if a neuro-developmental diagnosis (such as Autism Spectrum or ADHD) is causing problems for you in having a satisfying and productive life. This evaluation allows you to better identify roadblocks so that you can move around them more effectively. The diagnostic evaluation involves meeting with me for two assessment sessions, filling out some questionnaires, and coming back for a feedback session. In most cases, this provides enough information to give an accurate diagnosis and some general recommendations for helping you identify ways to overcome and/or compensate for challenges you may face at home, at work, and in the community. Sometimes I will determine that more testing might be in order to make a specific diagnosis. In this case, you will be provided with all the information to decide if you'd like to do further testing or if you have received enough information to move forward. This evaluation takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. A brief report* will be available 2-4 weeks after the feedback session.
Extended Adult Evaluation. Sometimes it can be difficult to provide a clear diagnosis without additional testing for an adult that has several overlapping areas of difficulty. Sometimes a client may request additional testing to address a specific issue or concern. I can tailor the evaluation by expanding the hours necessary to fully answer your concerns.
Toddler Diagnostic Consultation. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine if your child under 3 has characteristics that would fall into any diagnostic categories and then to provide a specific plan for you to follow in order to address your child's special needs. Early identification is important so that you can engage the right services for your child through state funded programs and through private therapies. The evaluation involves 3 single hour visits. The first hour involves interviewing you to identify your concerns and get information on your child's development so far. This is typically a parent only appointment. The second visit is a semi-structured observation with both you and your child as well as the examiner; interaction is designed around a range of toys and activities that allow examiner to observe your child's range of behavior, motivations, and social communication. Outside the appointments and if appropriate, I will arrange a time to talk with your child's daycare provider, nanny, therapists, and/or preschool teacher. The third appointment also involves only parents. This is when I will share with you my observations and work collaboratively with you to develop a plan for your next steps. A written report* will be available 2-4 weeks after the final session.
Brief Child or Teen Evaluation. This assessment involves helping you identify specific issues that are getting in your child's way and better understanding what your child needs to be more successful. You may also like to come for a 'updated' evaluations to monitor your child's progress toward developmental goals and fine tune interventions. Areas that are typically assessed in a brief evaluation include social, communicative, emotional, adaptive and behavioral, with a limited ability to examine academic skills. Typically your child's teachers or other providers are contacted to provide collateral information. At the end of the brief evaluation, a diagnosis (if needed) is provided along with general recommendations for educational interventions so that you may maximize the services provided through the local school district. In addition, you will be provided with specific recommendations for private therapy, goal areas to address, strategies and resources most likely be helpful. This evaluation involves 4.5 to 6 hours of clinical time and 1.5 hours to write the report. Report* will be available 2-4 weeks after your feedback session.
Full Assessment. This assessment examines a wider scope of domains than a Brief Assessment and can involve children, teens or adults. In addition to diagnosis, social, communicative, emotional, adaptive and behavioral domains, this evaluation includes cognitive, academic, and/or neuropsychological areas such as executive function, memory, processing speed, etc. This assessment typically involves 4 sessions. During the first, I will meet with Adult client or child's parents for 1.5-2 hours so that I can obtain background information and clearly identify your goals. Then we will collaboratively develop a plan for the assessment. Typically 2 two hour testing sessions are scheduled. Occasionally, additional testing time is requested if an individual has processing speed difficulties. I will likely contact others (i.e., relatives, other providers, or your child's teacher) to gain additional information. Then a 1.5 to 2 hour feedback session is provided for the individual/parents. In the feedback session, a very specific plan of recommendations including placement (school or vocational), programs, accommodations and goals are provided. In addition, private interventions are discussed and organized. For older teens, a separate feedback appointment can be scheduled to present the results in a format meant to help them understand their strengths and challenges and to help motivate them to engage in goal planning and skill development. Typically, there are 4 hours of report* writing time charged with this evaluation. Report* is available approximately 4 weeks after the feedback.
Disability Accommodation Evaluation. This is a 'package' evaluation that involves 4 appointments to determine whether you qualify for accommodations in college or standardized testing. If you do qualify for accommodations (no guarantee), a report* will be provided that delineates the type and extent of accommodations that would be expected to support your learning and performance. This evaluation involves 6 hours of work with you, as well as 2 hours for report writing. This is a specific protocol and designed to assist young adults with limited means; the price is a flat fee of $1350. Sometimes additional questions arise during this process (i.e., diagnosis). In this case, you will be provided with information to help you decide whether to pursue further testing at additional cost or whether you have enough information to address present concerns.
* All of the above evaluations include a brief written report. The report describes the results of testing, conclusions, and general recommendations. If you would like to receive more specific recommendations with an individualized plan of goals, supports and strategies for school, vocational or treatment intervention, a comprehensive report can be provided at an additional cost. For some evaluations, you may choose not to have a report written; this will result in reduction of cost.
